History

We Have Done

It all started in 1996 to overcome a standstill situation with regard to adoption activities in the State. There was no VCA functioning in Odisha then for more than a year to facilitate and promote Indian adoptions. Adoption activities in the State were getting hampered in the absence of a VCA. Against this backdrop, a group of like-minded eminent social activists from different walks of life thought of forming an association that would act as VCA for the State of Odisha for the rehabilitation of orphaned and abandoned children through legal adoption, and thus Sanyog formally came into existence on 04th April, 1996.

Sanyog is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 XXI and bears registration number 20039/2 of 96. Later, it was registered again to become the Voluntary Coordinating Agency (V.C.A.) for coordinating, facilitating, and promoting adoption activities in the State of Odisha. Although it was recommended to act as the VCA of the State by the Women & Child Development Department, Govt. of Odisha, on May 22, 1996, it took more than a year for the Central Adoption Resource Agency, the apex adoption program controlling body in India under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, to accord the VCA license for the State of Odisha on September 16, 1997.

Renewals and Extension of VCA License

Since obtaining the VCA license, Sanyog has worked incessantly, completing three successive three-year terms as Odisha's VCA. In 2006, however, its VCA (referred to as ACA - Adoption Coordinating Agency) license renewal was extended by one year, and the current term was extended for another three years, expiring on September 15, 2010.

Growth as a Child Rights Organization

Now, Sanyog is Odisha’s leading child rights organization, working on different child-related issues in 12 districts of Odisha. The basic aim of Sanyog is to ensure the rights of children as a whole and particularly the rights of children who are in need of care and protection. Sanyog has availed projects from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and Adoptionscentrum of Sweden. With the support, cooperation, and patronage of all concerned, Sanyog has completed a decade of its existence and continues to strive for greater contributions.
